3/7: Brand & Beverly Earn AC Medals
Jordan Beverly placed 3rd and fellow senior Sean Brand finished 7th, as the Panther duo closed their high school careers with trips to the Boardwalk Hall podium.
Beverly, who placed 2nd at 130 a year ago, was dominant in his opening two bouts recording a 57 second pin and a 12-0 major to move into the semifinals. Leading late in his semifinal bout against Willingboro's James Green, Beverly was reversed to his back and pinned to move into the wrestlebacks. In his wrestleback bouts he recorded two more pins to finish in 3rd placed and pick up his 3rd State medal.
Making his 2nd AC appearance, Brand went 3-2 in the 119-pound bracket to finish in 7th place.
For Beverly, the 3rd place finish brings an end to the career of one of the most decorated wrestlers in Pt. Boro history. He leaves the program as the all-time wins leader with 153 victories and as the single wins leader with 43 in 2008. In addition to his three State medals, he also claimed three Region medals (including a championship in 2010), three District 23 championships and four District medals overall, and also claimed championships at the Walter Woods, Mustang Classic (twice), Roselle Park (twice), Battle at the Beach, and East Brunswick tournaments.
Brand leaves the program having compiled 114 wins over the course of his career. In addition to his 7th-place medal at Sates, he was a 3-time Region 6 medal winner (a champion in 2010), and a 2-time District 23 champion and 3-time medal winner.

2/27: Brand & Beverly Win Region Titles
Seniors Sean Brand and Jordan Beverly won Region Titles on Saturday to punch their tickets to the NJSIAA Championships in Atlantic City.
Brand, who will be making his 2nd appearance in AC, defeated Howell's Chris Albanese, 5-0, in the 119-pound final. Beverly claimed his first Region title by blanking Brick's Connor Brennan, 3-0, in the 140-pound final. Beverly will be making his 3rd trip to Atlantic City and will be looking for his 3rd trip to the podium after finishing 5th his sophomore year and 2nd last season.
Junior Doug Rosell just missed on joining the pair at Boardwalk Hall when he was defeated by CBA's Vin Favia, 4-1, in the 3rd place match of the 152-pound bracket. He ends the season with a 25-4 record.
Heavyweight David Halliday, a junior, also saw his season come to an end on Saturday. Halliday, a District 23 champion, was 0-2 on the day losing to 4th-place finisher Mike Stupiello of Lacey and 3rd-place finisher Greg Velasco of Keyport.

2/23: Onnembo & Matter Eliminated At Region Prelims
Junior Nick Onnembo and sophomore Andrew Matter lost in the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament on Tuesday night ending the season for the pair.
Onnembo, who was edge in overtime by Rich Lewis of TR East finishes the year with a record of 31-5. Matter, pinned by Brandon Vorrius of Middletown North in his prelim bout, ends the season with a record of 15-18.
The Panthers four District Champions: Sean Brand, Jordan Beverly, Doug Rosell, and David Halliday will be in action on Friday night in the Region quarters at the Ritacco Center in Toms River.

With their wins, the four champions receive byes into the quarterfinal round of the Region 6 Tournament on Friday night.
Junior Nick Onnembo (2nd place at 103) and sophomore Andrew Matter (3rd @ 189) also qualifed for the Region Tournament and will be in action at Tuesday night's opening round at the Ritacco Center. Onnembo is set to match up with Sean Stephenson of Brick Memorial, while Matter draws Brandon Vorrius of Middletown North.

2010 Season Preview
Head Coach: Pat Brady (2nd Season / 15-10)
State runner-up Jordan Beverly returns, as do ten other lettermen, as Point Boro looks to once again rack up the wins and be in the hunt for the B-South title.
Beverly will be a hammer in the middle of the lineup as he'll most likely bounce around to give the Panthers favorable matchups when possible. There is a strong supporting cast in the lower half including 2-time Region medalist Sean Brand who just missed on a trip to AC last season after making the trip south in 2008. Junior Nick Onnembo had a strong season at 112 in 2009 despite weighing in at only 100 pounds. He has the potential to put together a very strong year at 103. Another junior, Matt Harter is also capable of putting together a strong season wrestling at 125.
Juniors Doug Rosell (3rd @ Districts in 2009) and David Halliday are the returning win leaders in the top half of the lineup. Senior Matt Betz finally gets to crack the lineup after being stuck behind the graduated Jeff Keffer (4th @ States) the previous two seasons. Could be a lot of sophomores filling out the rest of the upper half including Kevin O'Connor and Andrew Matter who both earned letters as freshmen.

Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Jordan Beverly
The two-time State Placer, who came up just short in his bid for a State title in 2009, checks in at 140. With 112 career wins, he could top the 150 win mark which has only been done previously in the Shore by Raritan's Dan Seidenberg.
DESPO's Outlook
There are a few question marks in the lineup, but also plenty of talent, especially down low. If the newcomers pull through and the veterans handle their business, the Panthers should challenge for the Divisional title and have a strong showing at Districts.

3/7: Brand & Beverly Earn AC Medals
Jordan Beverly placed 3rd and fellow senior Sean Brand finished 7th, as the Panther duo closed their high school careers with trips to the Boardwalk Hall podium.
Beverly, who placed 2nd at 130 a year ago, was dominant in his opening two bouts recording a 57 second pin and a 12-0 major to move into the semifinals. Leading late in his semifinal bout against Willingboro's James Green, Beverly was reversed to his back and pinned to move into the wrestlebacks. In his wrestleback bouts he recorded two more pins to finish in 3rd placed and pick up his 3rd State medal.
Making his 2nd AC appearance, Brand went 3-2 in the 119-pound bracket to finish in 7th place.
For Beverly, the 3rd place finish brings an end to the career of one of the most decorated wrestlers in Pt. Boro history. He leaves the program as the all-time wins leader with 153 victories and as the single wins leader with 43 in 2008. In addition to his three State medals, he also claimed three Region medals (including a championship in 2010), three District 23 championships and four District medals overall, and also claimed championships at the Walter Woods, Mustang Classic (twice), Roselle Park (twice), Battle at the Beach, and East Brunswick tournaments.
Brand leaves the program having compiled 114 wins over the course of his career. In addition to his 7th-place medal at Sates, he was a 3-time Region 6 medal winner (a champion in 2010), and a 2-time District 23 champion and 3-time medal winner.

2/27: Brand & Beverly Win Region Titles
Seniors Sean Brand and Jordan Beverly won Region Titles on Saturday to punch their tickets to the NJSIAA Championships in Atlantic City.
Brand, who will be making his 2nd appearance in AC, defeated Howell's Chris Albanese, 5-0, in the 119-pound final. Beverly claimed his first Region title by blanking Brick's Connor Brennan, 3-0, in the 140-pound final. Beverly will be making his 3rd trip to Atlantic City and will be looking for his 3rd trip to the podium after finishing 5th his sophomore year and 2nd last season.
Junior Doug Rosell just missed on joining the pair at Boardwalk Hall when he was defeated by CBA's Vin Favia, 4-1, in the 3rd place match of the 152-pound bracket. He ends the season with a 25-4 record.
Heavyweight David Halliday, a junior, also saw his season come to an end on Saturday. Halliday, a District 23 champion, was 0-2 on the day losing to 4th-place finisher Mike Stupiello of Lacey and 3rd-place finisher Greg Velasco of Keyport.

2/23: Onnembo & Matter Eliminated At Region Prelims
Junior Nick Onnembo and sophomore Andrew Matter lost in the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament on Tuesday night ending the season for the pair.
Onnembo, who was edge in overtime by Rich Lewis of TR East finishes the year with a record of 31-5. Matter, pinned by Brandon Vorrius of Middletown North in his prelim bout, ends the season with a record of 15-18.
The Panthers four District Champions: Sean Brand, Jordan Beverly, Doug Rosell, and David Halliday will be in action on Friday night in the Region quarters at the Ritacco Center in Toms River.

2010 Season Preview
Head Coach: Pat Brady (2nd Season / 15-10)
State runner-up Jordan Beverly returns, as do ten other lettermen, as Point Boro looks to once again rack up the wins and be in the hunt for the B-South title.
Beverly will be a hammer in the middle of the lineup as he'll most likely bounce around to give the Panthers favorable matchups when possible. There is a strong supporting cast in the lower half including 2-time Region medalist Sean Brand who just missed on a trip to AC last season after making the trip south in 2008. Junior Nick Onnembo had a strong season at 112 in 2009 despite weighing in at only 100 pounds. He has the potential to put together a very strong year at 103. Another junior, Matt Harter is also capable of putting together a strong season wrestling at 125.
Juniors Doug Rosell (3rd @ Districts in 2009) and David Halliday are the returning win leaders in the top half of the lineup. Senior Matt Betz finally gets to crack the lineup after being stuck behind the graduated Jeff Keffer (4th @ States) the previous two seasons. Could be a lot of sophomores filling out the rest of the upper half including Kevin O'Connor and Andrew Matter who both earned letters as freshmen.

Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Jordan Beverly
The two-time State Placer, who came up just short in his bid for a State title in 2009, checks in at 140. With 112 career wins, he could top the 150 win mark which has only been done previously in the Shore by Raritan's Dan Seidenberg.
DESPO's Outlook
There are a few question marks in the lineup, but also plenty of talent, especially down low. If the newcomers pull through and the veterans handle their business, the Panthers should challenge for the Divisional title and have a strong showing at Districts.
